Pedata RV Applauds Government's Decision to Distribute Federal Grants to RV Manufacturers

Lanham, MD (Vocus) August 12, 2009

The economy is beginning to turn around. RV rentals have exceeded last year’s and motorhome sales are starting to pick up. Add to that .4 billion in federal grants for next-generation, fuel-efficient vehicles and it’s clear the RV industry could have a future if they jump on the bandwagon.

Among the companies poised to receive federal grants are Monaco Coach in Indiana, Allison Transmission, in Indianapolis; Delphi, in Kokomo; and Magna, in Muncie, reports RV Business. The money comes at a time when job losses have been high in Elkhart County, home of the RV. The federal grant money will secure thousands of jobs and help support a turning economy.

“Out of this tough economy we’ll see some really great innovations in the industry,” says Clint Ethington of Pedata RV Center. “The RV companies that look to the future with newer, greener, more efficient technologies are the companies to watch.”

Salute to the Air Commando Family Dinner to be Held in Fort Walton Beach, FL Benefiting Children of Fallen Special Operations Personnel

Tampa, FL – Special Operations Warrior Foundation is hosting a special event honoring the Air Commando Family at the Emerald Coast Conference Center, November 16.

The “Salute to the Air Commando Family” dinner pays tribute to the rich heritage of the “Quiet Professionals” of the Air Force Special Operations command and honors the sacrifices of those men and women and the families who have magnificently stood by their side.

The home of the Air Commandos, the Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla., has been the starting point of many memorable unconventional warfare operations, such as Doolittle’s carrier-based bombing raid in Tokyo and the 1970 Son Tay prisoner of war rescue raid in Vietnam. Today’s Air Commandos find themselves in support of the Global War on Terror and other conflicts around the globe. Many past Air Commandos have chosen to retire close to Hurlburt Field, and will be attending this event.

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation has its roots at Hurlburt Field where the “Bull Simons Scholarship Fund” was established in 1980 after the Iranian hostage rescue attempt. The fund was originally created to provide college educations for the 17 children surviving the nine special operators killed or incapacitated at Desert One.

The “Bull Simons Scholarship Fund” has since grown into the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides full college education grants, not loans, to the surviving children of special operations personnel killed in a training accident or operational mission. The Foundation has seen 102 of its students graduate college, and currently has 125 students enrolled in colleges and universities across the country, and another 400 children who have been pledged a college education.

“It is an incredible gift to be able to provide a college education to children who did nothing but wake up one morning, kiss their parent good-bye…and never to see them again,” said John T. Carney, President, Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

“We want all the men and women of the Special Operations community to know that the Warrior Foundation and its caring and benevolent supporters will be there to support the children they leave behind,” explained Carney, a retired Air Forces Special Operations Colonel.

Guest speakers include: Major General James L. Hobson, Jr., former Commander, Air Force Special Operations Command. Hobson is an accomplished Air Force Special Operations pilot with more than 6,500 flying hours and the recipient of the distinguished MacKay Trophy for the most meritorious flight of the year for Operation Urgent Fury: Grenada Rescue Mission, 1983.

Valerie Chapman, widow of Tech. Sgt. John A. Chapman, is also scheduled to speak. As a combat controller, Tech Sgt. Chapman requested close air support during the 17-hour grueling battle in Afghanistan again Al Qaeda, March 4, 2002. He was responsible for requesting the helicopter that extracted the stranded team and aircrew members. Although he lost his life along with six other special operations personnel on what is now called “Roberts Ridge,” Tech Sgt. Chapman was awarded the Air Force Cross and the Purple Heart. Tech. Sgt. Chapman left behind two daughters.

The “Salute to the Air Commando Family” dinner is open to the public. General admission tickets, 0 per person, can be purchased online at www.acteva.com/go/specialops Tickets will not be available at the door.

Free "Scholarship of the Day" Service Gives College Bound Students New Hope

The picture for many grads isn’t what they expected.

For more and more students, the dream of college is turning into a nightmare. College finances have changed so dramatically over the last 3 years that many students find themselves having to ‘just settle’. Those chasing elite private schools are ‘settling’ on public schools, those hoping for a top-rate public university are ‘settling’ on local community colleges – at least for a few years.

According to a recent study by the National Association for College Admission Counseling, more than 70 percent of high schools reported sacrificing their ‘dream school’ for more affordable options. Approximately 60% of schools said more students chose a public university rather than a private one, and 37 percent said more selected community college instead of a four-year school.

The main driver – finances, and it is coming from both sides. Deep dives in the stock market have driven down family educational savings plans and colleges have raised tuition and fees at rates more than double that of inflation, creating a perfect storm college students must navigate.

To weather the storm, many students are taking summer classes at lower cost schools or starting in ‘bargain’ schools as a starting point. For some, dream schools are pushed to being a future dream for possible grad school. Financial aid advisers are hearing this story every day as students search for scholarships to help.

It appears to be middle-class students that are getting hit the worse. Those with money can afford their choice university and have no worries; those who can’t afford to attend are getting the bulk of financial aid. This has caused it to become more important than ever before for students to leverage all available resources in finding possible financial aid for college.

Scholarships and grants are generally considered the ‘holy grail’ of financial aid. Most of these do not require the funds to be paid back as long as the student qualifies. However, they are often difficult to find and win. Rapid Guide’s student financial aid advice site FinancialAidTips.com is helping change that. They have declared July 4 as an “Independence Day” of another kind. An independence from high college costs.

On July 4, they launched a new, free scholarship website listing their “Scholarship of the Day”. Each day, new scholarships are reviewed and a selected scholarship programs will be provided along with a description and how to apply for college scholarships. Students can quickly and easily see if they qualify and could potentially win the award. According to spokesperson Darby Binder, “Our organization helps students entering college, so, we hear a lot about the impact of the economy. We know there is a lot of financial aid that goes unclaimed or has very little competition. Our goal is to make more of it known so students can find scholarships and increase their chance of attending the college they dreamed about.”

The site can be found at www.scholarships.financialaidtips.com. Not all scholarships will apply to all readers. That makes it important to check the new scholarship each day. FinancialAidTips.com has made that easy by providing the ability to subscribe to a daily email or RSS feed of the posting. Darby adds, “We want as many students, publications, organizations and other websites as possible to help us get the word out on these scholarships, so we encourage sharing. We know there are plenty of scholarships to go around, so just stick with it and you should find one”.
